The woman was stabilised and hoisted into a 17 Squadron Oryx helicopter.

At about 5pm on Saturday, 13 February emergency responders arrived on the scene of a incident in the mountain ranges of the Magaliesberg where a woman had reportedly slipped and fractured her right ankle.

“Netcare 911 with the Mountain Club of South Africa, Off Road Rescue Unit, Mogale Fire and Rescue Services and the Oostermoed Protection Services hiked to where the patient was located,” explained Shawn Herbst, Netcare 911’s media representative.

The rescue teams found the patient in severe pain and suffering from hypothermia due to the inclement weather. Due to the nature of the terrain and safety considerations, the assistance of the South African Air Force was requested.”

The patient was stabilised, and after she was hoisted into the 17 Squadron Oryx helicopter, she was flown to hospital under the care of an advanced life support paramedic for further care.
