Heavy rain floods roads, Luipaardsvlei subway affected

Flooding under bridge again after much anticipated Monday rainfall.

The News would like to warn road users of potential flooding in the area as a result of heavy rains on Monday morning, 22 February.

The News received reports that the subway below the railway bridge connecting Albertina Sisulu and Voortrekker Roads in Luipaardsvlei had been flooded – again.

When News journalist, Natasha Pretorius, drove on Albertina Sisulu Road past the subway a number of vehicles were turning around because of the flooding. Please avoid this area. Various other roads in the area are also heavily flooded and road users are advised to be cautious.

The Mogale Response Services had previously posted some road safety tips for those driving in the rain:

• Look ahead and try to read the road by 12 seconds.

• Do additional checks in your rear-view and side mirrors.

• Be extra cautious at traffic lights and intersections.

• Avoid areas that are prone to flooding.

• Avoid harsh braking.

• Maintain a longer following distance.

• Be patient and courteous.
