Fora appeals to community for help

Fora takes in animals from the street every day and regularly needs donations to help keep them operating. Here's how you can assist.

Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) helps hundreds of residents of Krugersdorp and surrounding areas’ animals and others in need every month, free of charge and, sometimes, around the clock.

On average, Fora houses just under 400 dogs and 100 cats, and is currently frighteningly close to their maximum capacity. With so many furry mouths to feed and provide general care to, it’s easy to understand why Fora is in constant need of donations.

If you’d like to assist Fora in any way, they’re always in dire need of lots of dog food (Montego Classic Adult and Ideal Adult are preferred), cat food (Ideal is preferred), canned dog food, fresh vegetables, rice and pets mince (which can be obtained from most butcheries).

Every morning staff prepare what’s called the Fora Breakfast by mixing veggies, cooked rice, mince and pet pellets together to serve up a healthy meal to all their animals.

They’re also always in need of plenty of cleaning products. Fora’s Thys Mulder said that they’re especially using a lot of garbage bags currently and, because they clean the cages and general premises every day, the need plenty of cleaning products such as bleach, pine gel, mops and brooms.

Shoo Fly or similar products can also be donated to help them fight against pests prevalent among animals. And, of course, pet toys to keep the bunch happy and entertained are always welcomed. Blankets and old towels are always needed, especially so when winter comes around.

Fora takes in animals from the street every day and, as Thys noted, this averages to about four animals per day. “We just want people to sterilise their pets. We take in dogs roaming the streets every day. Pet owners just have to pay more attention to keeping their pets inside,” commented Thys.

Goods can be delivered directly to Fora’s gate, and cash donations can be paid directly into their bank account (Nedbank, Acc#1073509893, Current account, Branch#190541).

Fora is also currently looking to move to a larger premises so they can better accommodate this influx of animals. To help in this regard, please visit their BackaBuddy account which can be found pinned to the top of their Facebook page.
