Nothing will stop award-winning author

Inspiration comes in many forms. For Onkarabile Mokoto, a local writer and motivational speaker it comes through reading. And books are where his journey began.
In 2017, when Onkarabile was a security guard, he wrote and published his first book titled How To Hear God When He Speaks, and from there he has only grown.
Onkarabile has written a number of books in the last four years and has even grown his brand. With mentorship programmes, radio and TV jobs he is now teaching young writers to do the same.
Even when the dreaded 2020 happened it did not stop him from pursuing his dream. In mid-2020 he received the African Authors award which focuses on self-publishing authors. The platform seeks to promote ordinary people who transform lives with their stories.
Okarabile’s mentorship programme includes a speaking and writing course, and while he was busy with the programme lockdown came.
“I realised I could not let this stop my vision and we continued with the course on Zoom, although not all the participants came back,” he said.
In January this year they already started with a master writing programme, and in May he will be hosting the Becoming the best speaker programme.
“The purpose is changing lives. I want to see people being transformed,” he said and added that knowing what you want keeps you motivated.
The award was not his only achievement. He wrote and published two books in November. The first is titled Becoming the best speaker and focuses on helping others to be better public speakers. The second is called Financial wisdom, how to make and use money effectively which provides practical principles on how to use one’s talents to accumulate money.

His proudest moment came when he was informed that the Gauteng Department of Education has chosen two of his books, Power of planning and Rule through your knowledge to be used in school libraries all over Gauteng for Grade 4 to 12 learners.
On 17 April, after finishing his master writing programme, he will be hosting an open discussion with other authors on how to grow your brand, not only through writing and publishing, but by converting your books, for instance into movies or motivational talks.
