Man nabbed with illegal gun and ammo thanks to tip-off
Information from the community enabled the police to arrest a 45-year-old man who could not give proof that he was the legal owner of the firearm and ammunition found in his possession.
Based on information from the community the police arrested a 45-year-old man from Tshepisong recently after he was found in the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere, spokesperson for the West Rand District Police explained, “On arrival at the scene, the suspect who matched the description was identified and searched”.
The police found one 9mm pistol, 23 x 9mm rounds of ammunition and two magazines, but the man could not produce a licence or documents to show that he was the legal owner.
On further investigation the police also found 115 vehicle tyres at the scene. These were linked to another case of business burglary that the Kagiso Police were investigating.
“The suspect was arrested and detained at the Kagiso Police Station. He is expected to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon,” said Mogwere.
Brigadier Temba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander applauded the members for their swift response and thanked the community for being vigilant and giving the police positive information.
“With the assistance of the community, we will continue with our positive approach in the fight against crime,” he said.
