Cleaning Krugersdorp, one trash bag at a time
Move 1 Million members recently cleaned a part of Krugersdorp, saying that was just the beginning.
The Move One Million movement took it upon themselves to clean a large part of one of the entrances to Krugersdorp recently.
Corné Gierke, head of the Move One Million movement in Krugersdorp explained that this was the start of something big that they have planned for the town.
On Saturday, 24 April, the team from Move One Million, MYC security and other helping hands all gathered on the corner of Luipaard Street and Paardekraal Drive where they started picking up rubbish and cleaning the area.
Corné said they wished for Krugersdorp residents to come out twice a month and help to make their town beautiful again.
He added that Move One Million’s aim was to remove corrupt people from their seats and replace them with people who have a heart for this town. They started with this corner because, as Corné put it, they wanted to start with the eyesores.
Apart from cleaning they went around and educated the community about living hygienically and upholding values.
“People must respect their environment and their fellow man. They have to keep their town clean and hold others responsible.”
Corné said an estimated 40 volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help on Saturday. The team was escorted by MYC security who volunteered their services.
“Everyone is feeling bad about this country; we want people to change the way they think about it.”
However, they need everyone’s help to make the country a better place for all, and invited residents to join their group and come out to help them. The team picked up 76 trash bags full of rubbish on the Saturday morning, and said this was just the start.
Anyone who wishes to contribute or sponsor consumables can contact Corné on 078 547 6141.
“We need sponsors for road-marking paint, white and red paint, and white enamel paint for the curbs as well as paintbrushes.”
He said it would be appreciated if those with petrol brush cutters or lawnmowers could assist them on a regular basis.
“All work is voluntarily and we ask that everybody brings their own gloves for protection and a couple of black bags to fill. They can also bring rakes and shovels to help pick up the trash that had been collected.”
