Residents are taking back their neighbourhood

Early on a Saturday morning, about 20 residents of Wentworth Park banded together to clean up their neighbourhood. They realised it was time that they look after their own environment.

John Boreham explained how the neighbours came together on the corner of Bullion and Reserve Streets at 7am on Saturday, 17 April to clear bushes, cut long grass, and remove rubbish and used condoms.

Everyone wanted to help.

He said prostitutes use these overgrown bushes to ply their trade.

“That was a favourite spot for the prostitutes and drug dealers to do their business. Cars would pull in behind the trees off the road and do their business there at all times of the day and night. Every time someone drove past or walked past they were propositioned by the prostitutes who exposed themselves.”

Even the tiniest residents pitched in.

John said they want to try and continue with this project until the prostitutes and their clients leave the area.

“We have also started a name and shame Facebook page where we post photos of the prostitutes’ clients. The project was very well received by all the residents, and especially those in Golden Age Village, some of whom made a point of driving around to Reserve Street to thank us.”

Residents burning some of the grass and garden refuse they collected.

He also thanked all the residents for their rime and the effort they have put into the clean-up.
