WATCH: Krugersdorp singer releases single with the 942’s band

Jacaranda FM's new band, the 942's recently released their very first single and accompanying music video, 'We are the voice'.

During Martin Bester’s search for the best young talent, it was local singing sensation Lisa Taylor (Combrink) from Krugersdorp who was chosen as the lead vocalist for Jacaranda FM’s newly formed 942’s band.

Under the mentorship of Jacaranda FM Breakfast show presenter, Martin Bester, these talented youths recently released their very first song, accompanied by their first music video.

The song aptly titled ‘We are the voice’ speaks about the younger generation who wants to be heard and needs to be seen because they are the voices of the future.

Martin explained that ‘We are the voice’ was a collaboration between a number of talented artists like Ewald Janse van Rensburg from Monark, Dolf Wilemse who works with François van Coke on a regular basis, Rouxan Cloete, and he.

He said getting the 942’s together to record and shoot the music video, especially in a limited amount of time, was quite tricky especially considering their school schedules and Covid-19 restrictions.

“We recorded them separately in two studios – we recorded Dominic the drummer with Grammy-winning drummer and percussion producer, Vinnie Henrico, and the rest of the band recorded at Coleske studios. We combined the two in post.”

A very proud Martin said the Jacaranda FM audience helped to choose the best band.

“And I truly mean it when I say they are world-class performers. They are also great humans and extremely easy to work with, and to coach. I’m very excited for them as a band. I love their debut single, and look forward to seeing their careers develop in the future.”

So what is next for this young band and their mentor? Martin first wants to make sure that the debut single gains traction and the success that it deserves.

“Our focus for now is to promote the song and get people to share and watch their new music video. The next step would have been to do a bit of a tour and get the band stage-fit; but with the pandemic that will take a back seat for now.”

For now the band will join him in studio at Jacaranda FM as often as possible. They even recently joined the breakfast team for their 80s tribute show.

According to Martin other aspiring young artists should not give up on their dreams. “Keep at it because you love it – for no other reason at all!”

He said he would keep writing and performing music regardless of fame and popularity because it’s part of him, and reaching success as a musician or broadcaster will come as a spin-off from doing what you love with purpose.

“I’m a huge fan of music and bands; I think live and local music is a big part of our cultural references and you cannot replicate the energy or impact it has on you. I think the 942’s will break into the international market and become ambassadors for SA music.”
