Licensing Centre burglary: ‘We’ll be offering limited services for the foreseeable future’

A burglary at the Mogale City Licensing Centre on Sunday has resulted in the centre operating at a limited capacity but will remain open for pre-booked appointments.

The Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) announced today, Monday, 31 May that the Mogale City Licensing Service Centre will be offering limited services for the foreseeable future.

Refilwe Mahlangu, MCLM communication representative explained that, “After experiencing an unpleasant break-in and burglary in the early hours of Sunday morning, 30 May where face-value forms and other operational equipment were stolen, provision of services to the public will be affected”.

The licensing centre will remain open and continue to provide services to clients with pre-booked appointments for driving licence practical tests, learner licence tests, and the renewal of expired driving licences.

“Vehicle registrations for people residing in the Mogale City area can be done at the Kagiso Licensing Centre, while vehicle licence renewals (discs) can be done at the Post Office, or any neighbouring licensing centre such as Roodepoort, Kagiso or Randfontein,” Refilwe said.

Operations will return to normal once the provincial department has replaced the necessary equipment, but it is unclear when that will be.

“To conclude, the municipality’s licensing centre also hereby encourages members of the public to refrain from buying any fraudulent vehicle and other supposedly legal documentation, for which the stolen face-value papers will be used,” Refilwe warned.
