Eskom is appealing for the cooperation of the community to combat illegal connections and help provide an interruption-free network.
Ronel Kotze from Eskom’s Communication and Stakeholder Relations Department said Muldersdrift and Nooitgedacht plot owners have been experiencing electricity-supply interruptions due to illegal connections made by land invaders in the area.
Eskom has removed the illegal connections several times but new connections are made all the time.
“This results in damage to electricity infrastructure such as transformers, mini-substations and substations. Coupled with the rise in illegal and unauthorised operations on the Eskom network, other criminal activities have increased in these areas.”
Daphne Mokwena, Eskom Gauteng Senior Manager for Customer Service added, “This impedes our efforts to safeguard our assets from repeated failure and explosions as a result of overloading, caused by illegal connections and tampering with electricity infrastructure, which are increasing. Eskom will be engaging Mogale City and other stakeholders to try and find a solution to the issues affecting Muldersdrift and Nooitgedacht plot owners.”
Eskom requested the communities’ cooperation to keep the networks safe in order to supply electricity without interruptions.
