We are all aware that provincial and local road networks do wear over time, the reasons being ageing or environmental factors such as heavy rain, among other.
For this reason the Gauteng Department of Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure (GPDRT) working with municipalities has started the smart mobility weekends campaign. This campaign is aimed at improving the overall conditions of the province’s road networks and enhanced road maintenance.
The campaign was launched on April 11 and addresses problems such as potholes, damage to the road surface, grass cutting, installation of road signage, and fixing traffic lights.
In June the GPDRT visited various sites in Mogale City to rehabilitate the roads as part of this campaign.

Mogale City’s Executive Mayor, Francis Makgatho, the Mogale City Member of the Mayoral Council for Roads and Transport, Betty Mdlane, and other municipal officials attended to road problems in Kagiso.
They ensured the stretch of road is maintained to acceptable standards that are safe for all motorists and allow for easy movement. These joint efforts resulted in resurfacing and patching up potholes on the main roads of Maimane, Sebenzisa and Sandpaper, all in Swaneville and Kagiso townships.
The next leg of the campaign will be moving directly into the communities.
