Hekpoort Police and other stakeholders recently spent the morning with the residents of the Tswelopele informal settlement as part of their 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children awareness campaign.
Hekpoort Police spokesperson Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye explained they were joined on Monday, November 29 by the Victim Empowerment Centre, the Crime Prevention Youth Desk, GBV Brigades, Mogale City Social workers, Tshwaraganang home-based care, West View Clinic and the West Rand Youth Development.
They visited the settlement from 09:30 until noon, and certified copies of documents and affidavits. They also distributed pamphlets about GBV and substance abuse, with safety tips.

Sergeant Maswanganye added that the Victim Empowerment team reminded the residents of the services available to them at the police station, while the West View Clinic for alcohol and drug rehabilitation explained how people could access their services.
The social worker encouraged the residents to report all types of abuse, and the West Rand Youth Development and Youth Crime Prevention Desk encouraged young people to familiarise themselves with their offices as they assist them with accessing the internet and other learning opportunities.
Tshwaraganang home-based care and gender-based brigades also distributed pamphlets addressing domestic violence, maintenance, and other related issues.”
