Members from all thirteen police precincts in the West Rand recently took to the streets of Tarlton and Muldersdrift to talk to the community about the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
Members from all 13 police precincts in the West Rand District recently took to the streets of Tarlton to talk to the community about the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign.
West Rand Police and Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya explained that the social crime prevention unit and communications officers from the mentioned precincts were joined by the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, the West Rand Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit as well as local Community Policing Forums, faith-based organisations and the Department of Health.

The teams engaged with the community through face-to-face interactions and door-to-door visits, and spoke about alcohol abuse which could lead to domestic violence. They also addressed negligence and child abandonment.
The integrated forces further drove to the Video Centre informal settlement in Muldersdrift where they met residents inside the sports facility.”
There they focused on promoting the revival of faith, and pastors from different dominations encouraged the community to speak out about violence directed at defenceless women and children.
“All participants closed the event with a mass prayer for all victims of GBV,” Captain Sibiya said.
