Dr Yusuf Dadoo hospital prioritises health of frontline workers
Healthcare workers from Dr Yusuf Dadoo hospital were recently treated to various services as part of a wellness week the hospital held to look after their employees.
Dr Yusuf Dadoo hospital recently held an Employee Wellness Week where the focus was on enabling healthcare workers to access the different services available to them at the hospital.
The hospital’s communications officer Puseletso Mabidikame explained that healthcare workers also form part of the community and amid the nature of their work they are often unable to tend to their own personal needs.
They stand up or sit down for a longer period thus putting strain on their health. This may pose the possibility of detrimental health outcomes such as lower back and leg pains, fatigue, discomfort and pregnancy-related health outcomes, hence a massage spa and the Podiatrist was available to pamper them.”
There was also an optometrist available to take a look at their eyes.
Puseletso said that even though they are healthcare workers they also sometime miss the mark on a healthy lifestyle and a professional dietitian was there to assist in testing their vitals, body mass index and provide them with diet plans.

Other activities included an aerobics sessions with the Key West Virgin Active team to improve physical and mental well-being and increase work engagement, job satisfaction and production.
“Amongst other services provided was the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) and other financial advisory services.”
Employee Wellness Week coordinator Charles Mabasa said that healthcare workers need to be treated special at all times and be given some social recognition to ensure that they provide the best services to the community they serve.
