Local to feature in song by famous SA singer

A local artist, Thabo Jama will soon be featured in Zahara's new song, Thandaza wena.

Local artist and founder of the Black 888 charity organisation, Thabo Jama, will soon feature in a new song by well-known South African singer and songwriter Bulelwa Mkutukana, better known as Zahara.

Thabo explained that he and Zahara will be releasing the song titled Thandaza wena. They met after she had accepted his invitation to be on his YouTube show called Black 888 TV.

He started Black 888 about three years ago to help those less fortunate in the community in many different ways. He wishes to give hope to the hopeless.

“I asked her to feature on the track I was busy with. She was not that convinced at first until I did a beat that blew her away.

She told me she would only feature on a song if it related with her, so I did the beat and a few lyrics that I believed might relate with her. And guess what, she loved the song and the beat. I respect this women. She’s a powerful vocalist.”

Thabo said he knew there was something special about him while growing up. “I listened to music when I cleaned, washed and cooked. Music was the only thing that kept me going, and I loved music even more after my mom had passed on. I knew that one day I wanted to be a music star.”

Thabo became involved in music five years ago and has recorded ten amapiano tracks thus far. Amapiano is a mix between deep house, jazz and lounge music. He listened to house and R&B while growing up and said that when amapiano started he immediately fell in love with it.

He started working on his first amapiano track which is titled Shampopo and is yet to be released.

Zahara explained that Thabo looked her up on social media and the two of them became friends. Although she usually does not collaborate with other artists she does believe in developing people.

As long as I can connect with you that is what matters,” she said, adding that she wanted to help lesser-known artists.

She explained that during the pandemic many people lost their jobs and their loved ones; she too lost someone. But Thandaza wena is about the fact that we have the choice to keep on keeping on.

Zahara wrote the lyrics of the song and said although this is an amapiano song and not her usual genre, she still brought her own element to the song. She still is the storyteller who conveys the message.

The plan is to release the song at the end of January, so keep an eye out for it.
