LETTER: Do you need a miracle?
How does God decide who gets a miracle and who he denies that lifeline?
• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
The dictionary explains a miracle as “an extraordinary event manifestation or divine instruction in human affairs”; and “A miracle is an act not fully explained by natural forces but attributed to a supernatural force, mainly God”.
All your efforts exhausted, all your resources depleted, then you need a miracle. In your finances you see no solution, and the only thing that can save you is a miracle.
Your marriage is failing, you have tried everything, the only thing left is a miracle. The doctors have done all they can, they can do no more. The only thing left is a miracle.
We all need a miracle at some time. But miracles are scarce and normally it seems they happen to other people.
My greatest dilemma in my spiritual search is this: How does God decide who gets a miracle and who he denies that lifeline?
More than 30 years ago our daughter was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, cancer of the nervous system. We prayed like you cannot imagine. Most of Krugersdorp prayed with us. Our daughter died. Our miracle was not to be. Disappointed, we tried to solve the puzzle of why our miracle was denied. Religion was not much help.
Some said God picks the most beautiful flowers. Others said to us that we did not have enough faith. A thought that crossed our minds, maybe there is sin in our lives.
To this day we still ponder on this time in our lives. A miracle is not just an answer to your prayer. A miracle may be the strength not to give up. We still believe in miracles.
