A group to help overcome addiction

The Rhema Freedom In Christ Support Group was founded to help people deal with addiction, especially those related to harder drugs such as methamphetamine and heroin.

Life can be difficult, and it’s okay to need help sometimes. Dealing with addiction is no small issue, and the more support addicts can get from caring people around them, the better.

The Rhema Freedom In Christ Support Group was formed because its members felt that they needed to address the addiction issue in Krugersdorp. They host a support group that meets every Tuesday at 19:00 on the corner of Rosenberg and Roode Streets in Burgershoop.

Addiction has a bad affect on the greatest people you can find on Earth. Our lives are committed to and passionate about helping the addict and the family out of addiction.

“As Rhema, we also assist by getting the individual into a recovery home. Our support group is based on faith sessions and, on a weekly basis, we deal with very important topics like rejection, pain, hurt and anger. 85% of addicts are not addicted to substances, but they run to substances because of what they deal with internally,” Sylvester Sauls from Rhema explained.

Sylvester further noted that the group stands firm on three main principles.

We will not bow down to addiction. We are stronger together. There is still hope for the addict and the family.”

The group currently consists of between ten and 15 people, but others join on a regular basis.

“We have another branch in Maraisburg, and part of our vision is to set up a support group in all the communities.”
