Easter fun with Girl Guides on a rainy day

Many came out to join the Girl Guides for an Easter craft market and fun day recently.

After having to postpone last year, the Girl Guides Gauteng West fraternity hosted an Easter craft day and fundraiser for their region.

The event was hosted at the Janet Kereboe Guide Hall at the Curamus School on Saturday, April 9 and even though it was a cold and wet day, many still came out to support the guides.

Twenty eight very creative crafters also had the opportunity to show their talents at three different crafting stations for some fun Easter crafts.

At the first station crafters got to decorate an Easter cupcake as well as a sunflower cupcake. Natasha Greaves taught them how to use household items instead of fancy tools to decorate their cupcakes.

At the second station the scissors and glue guns were taken out to make bags decorated with Easter bunnies. These can be used as an Easter shopping bag or a bag for an Easter egg hunt.

The last one was a decoupage station and beautiful Easter plates were made.

Michelle Bevan from the guides explained that the Girl Guides are a non-profit organisation and only rely on the fees they receive, so fundraisers like these help a lot. They were hoping that this would be the first of many to come.

But the day also included a market for those who are not as creative. There were stalls with delicious food, home-made gifts, pancakes, a paper store, hot coffee and tea, Easter gifts and plants.

They are inviting all girl who are interested in joining an existing unit to contact them, and are especially looking for adult leaders from the age of 18 to join – they will provide training.
