No refuse removal or licensing services due to strike

This strike most likely will impact the waste collection schedule, the Licensing Centre services, sanitation services and street-cleaning routes, as well as other frontline services and Council venues.

Following complaints of certain municipal services being disrupted, including the licensing services, the Mogle City Local Municipality (MCLM) released a statement explaining the situation.

MCLM apologised to residents and businesses affected by the disruption of certain municipal services due to today’s strike action (April 28) by the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU).

This strike most likely will impact the waste collection schedule, the Licensing Centre services, sanitation services and street-cleaning routes, as well as other frontline services and Council venues. However, the majority of the services were expected to operate as normal or with minimal disruption.

They said although they hope that normal refuse removal services would resume on Monday, May 2, they wished to advise businesses and residents to stick to the council’s normal schedule for the remainder of the week to avoid increasing the backlog.

This means that areas not serviced today (Thursday) will only be covered in the upcoming week and we urge affected residents to keep their refuse bins in their yards until next week.”

“Council is working hard to minimise the impact on residents and businesses. We wish to apologise to residents for the delays that some may be experiencing.”
