Bowling Club reaches 110-year landmark
The milestone celebration brought together generations of bowlers as Krugersdorp Bowling Club honoured its past members and reflected on more than a century of sporting history.
Krugersdorp Bowling Club (KBC) marked a major milestone on June 16 as members and former players gathered to celebrate the club’s 110th anniversary.
The occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the club’s rich history, achievements and contribution to the local sporting community over more than a century.
According to club spokesperson David Parker, the club was officially opened by mining magnate and politician Sir Abe Bailey, who also played a significant role in the development of Krugersdorp.

Parker explained that in the club’s early years, a draft constitution was adopted and annual membership fees were introduced. Since then, generations of bowlers have represented the club in various tournaments and earned numerous accolades.
A highlight of the anniversary celebrations was the recognition of the club’s lifetime members.
“We celebrated the day by honouring lifetime members such as Ken Beveridge, Joe Price and Ian McLaren. The spirit of KBC is to support each member and play a role in assisting the club committee to ensure the positive development of new members,” said Parker.
He added that KBC is the ninth-oldest active club affiliated with Bowls South Africa, a notable achievement considering the many transitions and challenges the club has experienced over the years.

Among those challenges was the Covid-19 pandemic, which disrupted sporting activities and club events across the country. Despite these obstacles, Parker said the club endured through the commitment and support of its members.
More than a century after its establishment, KBC continues to serve as an important sporting institution and community landmark, carrying forward a legacy built on participation, camaraderie and dedication to the game.
