West Rand Police raid local high school, confiscate prohibited items

West Rand Police and stakeholders searched 900 learners at Hoërskool Jan de Klerk as part of the school safety programme.

West Rand Police raided Hoërskool Jan de Klerk with the sole purpose of searching for prohibited items on the school’s premises.

The raid was part of the police’s school safety programme that aims to ensure learners are not put in harm’s way or endangering themselves.

The police searched over 900 pupils.

According to Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane, during the raid, police and other stakeholders searched over 900 learners and confiscated prohibited items including alcohol, dagga, snuff, cigarette paper, dice, and scissors.

Involved in the raid were the Krugersdorp Police’s Vispol Commander Colonel Senne Mogotlane, Vispol Support Head Lieutenant Colonel Tlou Moabelo, Captain Raymond Sebonyane, social crime prevention coordinator Warrant Officer Fritz Terblanche, social crime prevention officer Sergeant Patricia Tshifularo, Valno Botha from the Victim Friendly Room (VFR), crime prevention wardens and community patrollers.

Some learners were carrying drugs and other illegal items which were confiscated by police.

Learners were further encouraged to be vigilant and report any criminal activity on the school premises immediately to the teachers who will then report it to the Krugersdorp Police.
