Police warn community of increase in burglaries

The Krugersdorp Police have seen a rise in burglaries in recent weeks and residents are urged to play their role in prevention.

According to Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane, many residents and business owners have logged complaints and voiced their concerns about their property being invaded, vandalised, or stolen when they are not at home or their business.

As a result, the police would like to encourage members of the public to follow these tips to ensure their safety and prevent criminals from entering their homes:

1. Install an alarm system.
2. Check every entry point when leaving your building or work vehicle.
3. Keep track of keys.
4. Take photographs of all employees.
5. Keep copies of all your employees – identity documents.
6. Keep valuables out of easy sight.
7. Do not employ casual workers without a reference.
8. Remunerate your employees when useful information is provided that contribute to the prevention of crime.
9. If you leave your residence, inform your family or neighbours of your intended destination, the time you expect to return.
10. Get into the habit of not immediately falling asleep after switching off the lights.
11. You should not be visible in the bedroom from the outside when you are asleep.

The police would like to encourage the community to assist them by always using the number 10111 when they witness any suspicious activity on their premises so that police can respond immediately when a crime takes place.
