Body of 10-year-old girl found floating in river

The child was missing for 2 days.

Police and a private security company have confirmed that the body of a missing 10-year-old girl was found floating in a river in Kagiso on Wednesday, January 29.

According to BCI Security operations manager Johnny Loots, he was informed about the missing girl from Kagiso as part of a collaborative effort with various law enforcement agencies and the public. Hours later, a community member reported discovering her lifeless body in the river.

“Without hesitation, we immediately dispatched police’s Search and Rescue team. Along with our law enforcement partners, they rushed to the scene. Sadly, upon arrival, we confirmed the worst — the small body of the young girl who had been reported missing. Our deepest condolences go out to the family during this devastating time. May this little angel rest in peace,” said Loots.

Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Sello stated that authorities are treating the death as suspicious, and a murder investigation is now underway.
