Latest municipal scam to watch out for

Fraudsters are falsely advertising general worker positions in what has been described as the latest scam the municipality warned.

Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) infrastructure department cautioned the public about recurring job scams targeting vulnerable residents who are looking for job opportunities.

MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu said fraudsters are falsely advertising general worker positions for a 20-day stormwater cleaning project and instructing applicants to contact a ‘Mr. Calvin Mahlake’ on 064 865 9573.

“We continue to emphasise that MCLM strictly advertises all vacant positions in select national newspapers and on our official website. If a job listing is not on our website, it does not exist. Anyone posing as a recruiter, consultant, or using unofficial online platforms is attempting fraud,” Mahlangu stated.

She concluded if you receive suspicious communication claiming to be from the municipality, especially if it involves requests for payment, banking details, or identity documents, do not engage. They further urge the public to contact the nearest police station.
