Learner mugged with panga and knife
Just as West Rand Flying Squad police officers left the station after an arrest, a schoolboy ran to them for help after he was mugged.
The police’s West Rand Flying Squad (WRFS) made two arrests in short succession, one of which involved a learner being mugged.

In the first incident, WRFS spokesperson Karen du Plessis said that after they received information about an unlicensed firearm, their officers followed up on the lead and searched a property.
“They did not find the firearm, however, they did find three tablets, six cellphones, police badges and a police radio. A person was arrested for being in possession of presumably stolen property,” she explained.
She continues that they took the suspect to the Kagiso Police Station, and as they left the building, a school boy ran to the officers claiming he had been mugged.
The boy was walking home from the mall when two men with a panga and knife surrounded him and mugged him, taking his phone and school bag,” she said.
“After the armed robbers got what they wanted, they left the boy, whereafter he ran to the police station. The officers asked the boy to escort them to help them identify the robbers,” she added.
Du Plessis continued that when they drove around, they luckily spotted the suspects, as one of them was wearing bright clothing that made him stand out.
“They arrested the robbers and recovered the phone, however, they could not find the boy’s schoolbag,” she concluded.
