Residents warned of municipal payment scam

A man falsely claiming to represent the municipality is targeting residents, and officials stress that all payments must go through verified channels.

The Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) has warned residents about a scam currently circulating in the community.

According to the municipality, a man claiming to be “Kelvin Ndlovu” is approaching residents and telling them their municipal accounts will be disconnected unless they make direct payments to him.

“This is a scam,” said MCLM assistant manager for media and public relations, Refilwe Mahlangu.

She reminded residents that the municipality only uses official platforms for payments and that no individual has the authority to write off, reduce, or suspend municipal accounts.

Residents are urged not to make payments to individuals and to always verify anyone claiming to represent the municipality.

MCLM’s official channels for verification are:

• Switchboard: 011 951 2000
• WhatsApp: 083 787 2814
• Email: customerservices@mogalecity.gov.za

The municipality has encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
