Armed robbery and murder-linked suspect arrested at Key West

A coordinated security operation at Key West Shopping Centre led to the arrest of a suspect linked to an armed robbery and murder investigation.

Private security acted swiftly after a suspect was apprehended at Key West Shopping Centre following an incident linked to serious crime allegations.

At approximately 17:00 on Friday, April 23, information was received regarding a vehicle stationed at the shopping centre that was linked to an armed robbery and murder.

According to Help24 Secure CEO Sheldon Grobler, units initially stood down and maintained surveillance after receiving the information, while waiting for the suspect to return to the vehicle. Help24 Tactical Response Unit (TRU) and a private security company were positioned on standby.

“Upon the suspect’s arrival at the vehicle, Help24 Secure TRU and the private security company tracked and apprehended the suspect. The suspect was arrested on scene without further incident. SAPS was called,” Grobler confirmed.

Key West Centre Management issued a statement saying the matter was handed over to SAPS for further investigation and processing. The centre also condemned the incident and commended the response by security teams.

In its statement, management said, “Key West Shopping Centre commends the professionalism and coordinated response demonstrated by both the on-site security team and law enforcement officials. The incident underscores the effectiveness of the centre’s proactive security measures and continued investment in advanced safety technologies. The safety and security of our shoppers, tenants, and staff remain our highest priority. Key West continues to work closely with private security partners and law enforcement agencies to maintain a safe and secure environment for the community.”

The suspect was arrested on scene and SAPS is continuing with investigations.
