Higher than usual bills? Municipality explains why …
Mogale City Local Municipality updates residents and businesses regarding electricity metering devices and billing issues.
Since the start of the 2023/ 24 financial year, Mogale City has embarked on a programme to upgrade electricity metering devices as an intercession to minimise and reduce revenue loss due to meters that are non-functional and easy to tamper with.
The programme is set to replace old electro-mechanical meters with electronic and digital meters with smart functions to reduce the risks.
According to MCLM communications officer Adrian Amod, the installation process will involve the service provider preparing an installation report that informs the revenue section, a division of finance management services of the new metering details, as well as a last reading on the replaced meter to ensure accurate billing.
”Many smart meter installations were completed during December and January that could not be captured on time, resulting in some account estimations, which is why the bill is higher than usual. We are currently in the process of capturing all changes originating from the installation reports, and residents’ accounts are being adjusted accordingly. The municipality intends on finalising and capturing all changes before February 28.”
