Municipal

Do you know how your digital electricity meter works?

The municipality updates residents who had their analogue electricity meters converted to digital.

Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) Energy Services is upgrading outdated analogue electricity meters to advanced digital smart meters.

MCLM communication officer Refilwe Mahlangu said installations have so far been completed in Rangeview Ext 4 and Noordheuwel Ext 4.

“We ask residents in these areas to collect their Customer Interface Units (ClUs) from Energy Services’ offices in the Civic Centre. The CIU is an essential device that will be connected to homes, allowing residents to monitor electricity consumption, take electricity readings, and submit readings to the billing department monthly,” she informed.

She continued that customers must upload their meter readings via the ‘My Municipal Meter‘ platform between the first and third week of each month to ensure timely processing.

“However, if a submission is delayed, it can still be uploaded until the last day of the month by noon.

To maintain a consistent 30-day billing cycle, customers should submit readings on the same date every month.

“This helps mitigate delays caused by unforeseen circumstances such as weather conditions, staff absence from work or emergencies,” she added.

For customers who are unable to use the app, especially elderly residents without assistance, readings can still be submitted via email to the following employees:
