After a year a burst pipe is still not fixed
Residents are angry that a water leak has been left unresolved and that Mogale City is not attending to it more rapidly.
Despite Mogale City’s Water Services stating that they will pump out the accumulated rainwater of a makeshift dam and complete the restoration process of a persistent water leak in Kameelperd Avenue, nothing has been done.
The Krugersdorp News first reported on this matter on March 13, where Ward 29 councillor Aloysha Jooste expressed concern over the health and safety risks, particularly to children, that it poses. The News also visited the site to witness firsthand that no repair work had been done.
The issue has been persistent for more than a year, and residents are beyond concerned. Even though Water Services cordoned off the area, water is still accumulating with rubbish inside.
We are paying extra for water, VAT is going up, yet the municipality cannot fix a water leak. This is not just a safety and health risk, it also has financial implications for the residents.
“Fix this water leak and help residents to live a better life,” Jooste said.

Water Services confirmed in a statement that water loss is a primary long-term risk, but the team works diligently to contain it.
“The area is barricaded for safety and will be backfilled upon completion of repairs.
The required parts are on order and pending delivery. Repairs and backfilling will commence immediately upon arrival,” the statement read.
It also stated that short, medium and long-term maintenance plans are included in the current and next fiscal budgets.
Residents remain frustrated that the issue persists, especially given the town’s existing water restrictions and ongoing crisis caused by leaks and burst pipes. They continue to demand swift action from the department to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
