MCLM communication officer Refilwe Mahlangu explained this colour change is due to the rapid filling of the Vaal Dam following recent heavy rains, which has increased the organic load in the water.
Rand Water has assured MCLM that the water quality is being closely monitored and remains safe for consumption,” she assured.
In addition to Rand Water’s rigorous treatment processes, the municipality also conducts regular water quality checks in all storage reservoirs.
“We assure residents that our drinking water meets the high standards set by the South African National Standards 241 regulation for drinking water requirements,” she concluded.
