Heavy vehicle ban implemented on R563 due to growing sinkhole

A growing sinkhole after the R563/ N14 intersection has led to immediate restrictions for large vehicles. Ward councillor Gwen Britz is urging motorists to follow alternative routes and drive carefully.

Effective immediately, large vehicles and abnormal loads are prohibited from travelling on the R563 near a growing sinkhole.

Ward councillor Gwen Britz informed the Krugersdorp News on November 11 that the sinkhole is located at the intersection of the R563 and N14, near the R573 Road.

To ensure safety, Britz advises heavy vehicles to use the following alternative routes:

• From Magaliesburg to Pretoria: Continue on the R24 and then join the N14
• From Hekpoort to Pretoria: Turn left onto the R400 and continue to Pretoria, or turn right onto the R400 to connect with the R24, then the N14
• From Pretoria to Hekpoort:** Continue on the N14, then turn right onto the R24 and right again onto the R400.

“This restriction is being implemented due to the further expansion of the sinkhole, which poses additional damage and safety risks,” Britz stated.

She mentioned that signage will be put up to alert motorists about the restrictions, although a completion date has not yet been confirmed. Britz urged motorists to exercise caution while driving in the area.
