West Rand–Lanseria corridor in spotlight ahead of investment conference

Mogale City is positioning key local projects as it looks to attract investment and drive economic growth.

Mogale City Local Municipality is positioning itself as part of the growing West Rand–Lanseria development corridor, as government and investors turn their attention to the region ahead of the Gauteng Investment Conference.

The corridor, which links the West Rand to Lanseria International Airport and the planned Lanseria Smart City, is increasingly being viewed as a potential hub for logistics, aviation-related industries and mixed-use development.

These opportunities were discussed at a recent Western Corridor roundtable, where government, business and investors explored ways to unlock economic activity across the Gauteng City Region.

According to municipal spokesperson Tendani Shavani, aligning local plans with broader provincial priorities could help attract investment and support job creation.

At the Gauteng Investment Conference on April 9, Mogale City is expected to present several projects it hopes will draw investor interest.

These include a tailings retreatment project aimed at reprocessing old mine dumps, a proposed upgrade of the Krugersdorp Game Reserve to boost tourism, and the development of a retail centre in Hekpoort.

Plans for a potential electric vehicle manufacturing plant will also be on the table, as part of efforts to expand industrial activity in the area.

Shavani said the municipality’s location within the corridor places it in a position to benefit from future development, particularly as infrastructure and investment begin to take shape around Lanseria.
