Hosted at the Thaba Eco Hotel under the theme “Restoring Accountability and Navigating the Path to Sustainable Excellence”, the event brought together political and administrative leaders from municipalities across the province, as well as representatives from the Auditor-General of South Africa and the Gauteng provincial government.

Mogale City Executive Mayor Lucky Sele attended the event and accepted the award on behalf of the municipality.

These achievements reflect our commitment to service delivery, innovation, governance and community development,” said Sele.

According to SALGA Gauteng provincial chairperson Jongizizwe Dlabathi, municipalities need to continue strengthening accountability, oversight and governance to improve audit outcomes and build public confidence in local government.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi also addressed delegates during the event, emphasising the importance of ethical leadership and sound financial management in ensuring municipalities are able to meet the needs of communities.

SALGA spokesperson Marelda Boshielo said positive audit outcomes should not only be viewed as compliance measures, but also as indicators of effective leadership and institutional stability.

She added that municipalities should use audit outcomes to strengthen service delivery and improve trust between local government and residents.
