Parts of Noordheuwel without power after vandalism at substation.

In the midst of load-shedding, another electricity issue rises. On Thursday, January 19, Mogale City released a statement indicating that the mini substation supplying power to Noordheuwel Extension 4 has been badly vandalised and some parts of the substation were stolen in the early hours of this morning.

Although the technical team has already reached out to the several suppliers to source a replacement unit, it remains a lengthy process of transportation, delivery, installation and testing once the unit is purchased. Which essentially means that it will take several hours before the power supply can be restored.

The municipality has appealed to members of the community to help curb vandalism and thievery of infrastructure which costs the municipality a substantial amount of money to replace.

“By reporting the culprits this would bring justice,” the statement read.

Furthermore, Emergency Services advised local residents to treat the electrical wiring as live and switch off all appliances to avoid injury and damage once supply is restored.
