Siberian Tiger causes concerns in Muldersdrift
The Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA has been aware of the Siberian Tiger since January, but it was being kept on a different property.
A Siberian Tiger being held in Muldersdrift has been reported to the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) as residents are scared for their safety.
According to Mandy Cattanach, Manager at the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA, they have been aware of the Siberian Tiger since January, but it was being kept on a different property.

“The SPCA checks the animal’s welfare, the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) enforces the permits, and police ensure public safety,” explained Mandy regarding the process of inspections regarding exotic animals being pet as pets.
She went on to explain that they don’t have a full statement yet as the case is still being investigated.
Ward Councillor Zillah Maguire explained that she has been in contact with GDARD.

“The tiger is apparently voluntarily being surrendered to the SPCA, the SPCA is sourcing a relocation facility and will be relocating the tiger to a suitable place. It was found on the site inspection that the current enclosure is not conducive to the well-being of the tiger.
“I am however unsure as to when the SPCA will be collecting the tiger for relocation,” stated Zillah.
The Northsider/ News spoke to Mandy regarding the above-mentioned statement, who informed us that she is still waiting for the finalized information.
