An Easter egg hunt with a difference
The Ray of Hope organisation recently held an Easter egg hunt for 133 children from the community. But instead of just hunting eggs they made it a treasure hunt with a meaning.
Easter with a twist, that is what the Ray of Hope organisation and Revelations Supernatural Church (RSC) recently presented to 133 children.
On April 8, the organisation hosted an Easter egg hunt and fun day for children from the community.
Natasha Engelbrecht from the organisation said they did not just want to host a normal Easter egg hunt but also wanted to teach the children what Easter is really about.

So they made it a treasure hunt which was held between 10:00 and 15:00. There were six stations and at each station, the children had to answer a question about Easter and Jesus. If they then answered correctly they received a clue and could go search for treasure. The treasure was then shared between the teams and they could move on to the next question. Then at the end, there was a prize for the winning team.

Natasha said that the two teams finished together and said that they were running around with all the excitement. The children also received hot dogs, cold drinks, sweet packets, ice cream, and ice lollies.
“Our aim as a community is to put smiles on our kids’ faces, at least something for them to look forward to as well as teach them what Easter is all about. It is not only about eggs and bunnies but Jesus who died for our sins on the cross and rose again.”
She said that the RSC team held a short service for the children.
“It was one of the highlights. The whole day was very special for the children as well as for us. The children now know what Easter is about and could answer many questions about Easter. They also enjoyed that we made the learning fun for them.”
Apart from events like these the organisation also has a Friday food drive every week where they provide needy residents with a warm plate of food. Natasha said the menu for every Friday changes according to the donations that they receive.
They are in desperate need of winter clothes, blankets, mine, beef, soup bones, wors, viennas, fresh or frozen vegetables, corn flour, rice, macaroni, soup powder, bread, margarine, cookies, chips, cupcakes, and containers to dish the food in.
She thanks their chef who makes delicious food and added that they get many compliments on the food they hand out.
“A very special thank you to everyone, sponsors as well as volunteers, and everyone who attend the event for helping us to make a memorable Easter Hunt 2023.”
The Friday Food drive for the homeless is held from 14:00 at the Ray of Hope premises situated at 236 Commissioner Street. Donations can also be dropped off at the said address or contact 010 035 5210, 010 035 5214, or WhatsApp 063 311 2121 for more details.
