Former orphan now a qualified firefighter

Mpho Molefe who was an orphan has reached her goal of becoming a qualified firefighter.

Many people face many setbacks throughout their life which may hold them back. Others keep on moving forward no matter how slow to accomplish their goals.
Mpho Molefe, an orphan at 10 years old, is a person who inspires.

She never had someone to look up to or to guide her throughout her life. To make matters worse, she fell pregnant at the age of 19 in 2020 and was unable to find the means to take care of her daughter which left her with little hope.

She then decided to start doing odd jobs around Magaliesburg before eventually enrolling in the Working on Fire Programme. The programme, which is part of the Expanded Public Works Programme, gives many young men and women working opportunities to develop and learn new skills which they can use to serve their community and Mpho worked in the programme for two years. She recently graduated as a firefighter.

She’s ecstatic about her achievements as she is now in a position to take care of her daughter and can finally serve her community.

‘‘You don’t know what this work opportunity means to me. This means my kid and I can eat and be clothed,’’ said Molefe.

Molefe is dedicated to being a servant to the public and hopes her story will inspire many to overcome adversity.
