A shot at helping the youth through broadcasting

The programme offers a platform to learn how the media works, learn about podcasts and radio, and gain work experience.

DJ Grizzly and the Wild West Show Radio and TV have recently embarked on a ‘Kasi to Kasi’ school tour to give learners a safe space to express themselves, talk about issues they face, and help parents understand their children better.

DJ Grizzly, and the team, tour schools in and around Mogale City to encourage interested learners to apply. Truly gifted learners then get to present their own show and be guided by the Wild West team. Some of the schools they have visited include Town View, Jan de Klerk, Royal Kings and Thuto Lefa. The chosen students talk to their parents about the topics they want to discuss and if the parents are comfortable, they move forward with a topic that is on the learner’s heart.

The programme has thus far started with students from Mogale City and once their ‘episodes’ air, they then move on to a new school. This is not a once-off thing and DJ Grizzly said they have added the programme to tackle teenage issues as it is an ongoing thing.

The shows are pre-shot so as soon as we have enough shows edited and ready to publish, the learners can, for example, watch it every Saturday on our website and YouTube channel.”

They are looking for learners in grades 10 and 11 who are looking to learn more about media, podcasts and radio and to also gain work experience. From there, learners can move on to producing, directing, presenting, script writing, videography and photography.

“We have mentors that work in radio, film, music and editing. They come in to help us and the students learn more. We are aiming to tackle issues that our youth go through on a daily basis. We want to help eradicate suicidal thoughts, eliminate depression and fight the fear of freedom of speech. We want to give the learners a platform where they can express themselves in a healthy space and also help the parents and educators understand the stresses that the youth go through.”

They will have the privilege to be part of independent minds that are creating something that will influence a whole generation.

Our goal is to encourage the youth to not always rely on parents to choose their futures for them, but for them to stand up and take the initiative to show their parents what they want to pursue.”

They are open to sponsorship from the community and the shows and more info can be found on www.wildwestshowradiotv.co.za.
