Refuse removal in some areas to resume next Tuesday only – municipality confirms

Mogale City regrets to inform residents that refuse collection in some areas will only be covered next week as the safety of their personnel is paramount.

As reported by the Krugersdorp News earlier today, the disruption of refuse removal in the municipality was due to illegal mining taking place near the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site that threatens the safety of municipal workers.

As a result, the waste trucks were not able to have access to the site to offload waste.

Following discussions with local law enforcement, the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) confirmed that public safety officials are planning on finding a solution to ensure that normal waste collection operations will resume as soon as possible.

However, MCLM communication officer Refilwe Mahlangu urged residents to be patient as the issue is being resolved.

“We urge residents to take into account that precedence will be given to safety and security to our personnel,” she said.

“Affected residents are encouraged to keep their refuse bins in their yards until next week Tuesday and are advised to refrain from emptying their bins in open fields which will cause illegal dumping that will not only harm the environment but also create a burden for surrounding areas and businesses.”
