Giving a hand to bring positive change
Full Gospel Church Krugersdorp West is making a difference in the community one positive project at a time.
The Full Gospel Church Krugersdorp West along with some members of the community made their way to the streets of Krugersdorp West recently to spread some positivity and send a message that they are taking it one project at a time.
By simply painting a wall, the church said it was purely a gesture they hoped would make a big difference in the community. This wall in particular, situated on Dekker Street, is filled with graffiti containing vulgar language and inappropriate messages. The wall is also located near a local school in the area and there for children to see, thus the church wanted to erase any negative connotations.

As part of the Paint My Community project, the church took a big step to make the youth understand right from wrong.

Pastor Tona Morake, who serves at the church, also explained the importance of community members especially youth participating in such projects.
“The municipality did a great job building the wall in September to prevent any accidents from occurring. However, some community members sprayed inappropriate written graffiti on the wall which has a bad psychological impact on children, our youth, and the general public at large passing by. Some of the content encouraged violence and abuse in our community. Therefore, the church took the initiative to paint the wall with a positive message. We chose to paint it with the community to instill the love of the community in all people. Our ward councillor referred us to the roads department and a letter about the project was submitted,” Morake confirmed.

Over 30 people participated and played a part in the initiative, however, this is just a stepping stone to what’s to come.
”The church went to local businesses to request sponsors and on painting day, we gave every participating community member or those passing by the opportunity to paint their hand on the hall, creating some sense of ownership. Our next project is to clean up the area behind the community hall and come up with sustainable development programmes for the community,” Morake added.
