Watch out, the traffic cops are out and about
Law enforcement officials including the Gauteng MEC for Transport and Logistics made their way to Chamdor among other areas of the West Rand to spread awareness on road safety.
The safety of motorists and pedestrians on roads is a high priority and law enforcement officials along with the Gauteng MEC for Transport and Logistics made their way to Chamdor to continue their road safety campaign on the last day of January.
The Fatela Road Safety Campaign, launched around December 2023, is aimed at educating motorists and pedestrians to reduce road carnages. It is an initiative by the Gauteng provincial government.
Furthermore, the campaign seeks to educate road users about safe behaviour and to preserve lives. It also encourages road users to sign a pledge committing to being responsible for their safety and that of others.

According to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Transport and Logistics Portfolio Committee, led by chairperson Gregory Schneemann, road accidents remain at high levels, especially during the festive season.
Accidents are caused by among others a lack of adherence to road signs, disobeying traffic rules, driving under the influence of alcohol, and general bad driving behaviour which remains a serious problem.

MEC Kedibone Diale Tlabela was also joined by law enforcement officials who inspected roads and engaged with motorists by checking if their vehicles were registered. In addition, they did an oversight over the conditions of roads and road signs throughout the West Rand and visited the Leratong Taxi Rank. The department also implemented the scholar law enforcement operation to ensure that children are getting to school safely by ensuring school transport services abide by the law.
