Correctional Services donates shoes to needy learners

Faces were beaming with joy as the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) handed out school shoes to 96 needy learners in Munsieville Ext 4.

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) recently hosted a handing-over ceremony of school shoes to 96 underprivileged learners at Munsieville Primary School.

According to Sibusiso Mafethe, the senior communication’s officer at DCS: Krugersdorp Management Arena, they have in recent times engaged in various community upliftment projects to showcase the selflessness of its officials, who raised funds for these projects from their own pockets, under the leadership of the area commissioner Dikeledi Molaba.

“The commissioner has had a mind-shift commitment to improve the livelihood of the less privileged,” said Mafethe.

He added the learners were filled with gratitude as they assembled to receive their pair of school shoes.

The acting school principal Mmabatho Moloi was excited about the humanity shown by the department and that her school was identified as a beneficiary. She further encouraged DCS to not only do such projects in Munsieville Ext 4 but also other schools within the district.

Moloi highlighted most of the parents cannot afford to buy their children’s school uniforms but what DCS has done, shows love, warmth, and a humane understanding of giving a helping hand.

“Because education is the key to a brighter future the government must play a bigger role in boosting the self-esteem of children at the primary school level so that their importance is realised from a young age,” said Moloi.

Commissioner Molaba offered her words of support to children encouraging them about the importance of attending school.

She added the children are faced with daily embarrassment of not having the proper school attire and that they embrace the cold weather days without being dressed warmly.

“Such conditions fail to bring about the full potential of these learners in class,” Molaba said.

In conclusion, the learners were very excited about the school shoes they received as they were beaming with joy on their faces and it was priceless.

“We can make a difference by working together to achieve prosperous social progress,” said Mafethe.
