Cops visit Nomzamo High to address safety: Dagga found

Police in Kagiso continued to strengthen ties with schools and the youth during another crime prevention initiative.

By regularly engaging with the youth, police hope they can promote school safety.

According to West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya, school-based crime prevention plays a significant role in educating youngsters about crime and safety in a school environment.

Again recently, police visited Nomzamo Mandela High School in Rietvallei to conduct searches as well as address learners as part of their provincial mandate.

Straws of dagga were indeed found on the school premises. Photo submitted.

“The programme works in partnership with local police, CPF, and community patrollers which are important components towards the realisation of safety at our schools and learners as directed by the National Developmental Plan.

“The purpose of this visit was to address the learners about substance abuse, bullying, theft, rape, abduction and discipline. Learners were also encouraged to walk in groups for their safety. The initiative was welcomed and further strengthened ties with the police and the school.”

During the random searches, one learner was found in possession of dagga straws as well as a cigarette container. To add, about eight classes were identified by school management as problematic.
