Foundation strives to serve the community

The Christian Campus Church in Lewisham collects food through sponsors and gives it to the less fortunate community.

The Zoey Community Foundation aims to change the community and make it a better place with food sponsored by the Lewisham community.

The organiser of the food project, Boitumelo Khanye said that they get the food in large, plastic bags, where they then prepare it and repackage it in smaller containers for less fortunate people to collect every Friday afternoon. They repack it in containers so that people do not need to bring buckets to carry the food. They started last year and receive around 40 bags of food every week that feed more than 150 people.

According to Boitumelo, the project helps children, the unemployed and the elderly who have to provide for their families, because many people lost their jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic.

They have about 15 volunteers who help with the project and are encouraging the community to help support them with funding or physical assistance.

We try to help young people to think positively and teach the community that with God, everything is possible,” Boitumelo said.

Companies like JTN Electric sponsored the refrigerated trailer to transport food to the church.

Anyone who wants to support the foundation can contact them via email at info@zoeyfoundation.org.za, or call their office at 074 639 3154, as they are looking to expand the project.
