Three of Krugersdorp’s bravest fighting wildfires in Canada

As part of the Working On Fire Kishugu Joint Venture, 200 wildland firefighters have been deployed to Canada to lend a helping hand, and Krugersdorp's Thatoemang Molefe, Sipho Ntuli and Dumile Malete will be among them.

The Working on Fire Kishugu Joint Venture has three brave men from Krugersdorp putting their lives on the line in Canada.

In a statement issued by WoF’s provincial communications officer Parapara Makgahlela, Thatoemang Molefe, Sipho Ntuli and Dumile Malete are three of 200 firefighters deployed on a humanitarian mission for at least 39 days to stop raging fires in Canada.

Molefe is one of the leading and experienced firefighters earning a fourth cap in the international deployment to Canada. He is from the Krugersdorp base.

He is also passionate about structural firefighting and said that this deployment is critical in acquiring new skills and experience in the process.

‘‘In September I will be partaking in the Toughest Firefighter Alive competition in George as well,’’ he said.

According to Parapara, this deployment in North America is excellent preparation for that competition.

“It amazes him to help with wildland firefighting in Canada. It is dedication and passion that drives him. Thatoemang never takes things for granted hence he had to lift his fit levels at all times,” Parapara said.

‘‘My contribution to saving lives and protecting the environment is highly valued. This deployment brings out the best of him to do more in the best safest way,’’ Thatoemang added.

Dumile said humanity demands that all firefighters assist Canada. He added he would hoist and fly SA’s flag high by contributing to contain raging fires.

“As a Working on Fire-Kishugu Joint Venture team member, we will not disappoint the host country. I will give it my best shot,” he explained.
