Môreglans celebrates as SAVF turns 120 years old
The SAVF has been around for more than a century and is still going strong.
SAVF Môreglans Old Age Home was the place to be on Saturday, October 19 as the SAVF celebrated their 120th anniversary.
It was a trip down memory lane to celebrate the history, tradition and milestones the home had accomplished over more than a century.
According to the secretary of the home, Dalina Lombard, the anniversary is important to highlight the significant strides they have made over the years to improve the livelihood of its residents and the working conditions of its staff.

“This year much-needed facelifts were given to some of the facilities on the premises, starting with the laundry room being refurbished and new industrial washing machines being installed to cater for more than 100 of their residents. The new kitchen and dining hall were also opened adding a new industrial blender, a waffle maker and jaffle pans. The improvements to the home were thanks to some private donations made over the years as well projects such as 1 000 Hearts launched by the home and has been in place for 12 years.”

She added the first SAVF Old Age Home, Môreglans, opened its doors on 16 June 1910 in Krugersdorp with four residents.
Over the years, more old age homes would open in various other provinces such as KZN, North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
