Dazzling Diwali extravaganza lights up Silverstar
The Diwali extravaganza that was hosted recently, shared their proceeds with a deserving NPO.
The first ever Silverstar Diwali Extravaganza was a festival of lights where eventgoers created joyful memories in unity and cultural richness.
Silverstar’s communications manager Chanelle Wilmont said they wanted to celebrate cultural diversity and unity at the extravaganza, held during the last weekend of October, while also reaching out to support people with and for disabilities.

“There was a beautiful laser show where all the colours of the rainbow danced upon beams of light to the tune of music that could be felt reverberating throughout your body. The dancers entertained the crowd with traditional dancing, twirling skirts and fluttering hands. Guests could browse a variety of items at numerous stalls and indulge in special Diwali gift boxes. Kids were entertained by jumping castles, face painting and a stilt-walking clown that made endearing balloon figures,” she explained.

The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) is an organisation that plays an integral role in shaping South Africa into a country where persons with disabilities have access to equitable opportunities and rights. For more than 80 years, they have been running awareness programmes, influencing government policies, promoting physical and social access, and facilitating economic participation for and with persons with disabilities.

“We are grateful to our community that participated in this event as all proceeds of ticket sales went to the NCPD,” she thanked.
Chanelle said Diwali symbolises spiritual victory over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance, combining the NCPD’s purpose with cultural significance to highlight the social and economic struggles of persons with disabilities.
They further extended a heartfelt thank you to the West Rand community who added their light to this festival.
