What’s that sound: It’s Santa on a motorcycle!

More than 200 bikers gathered recently to make Christmas special for underprivileged children in town during the annual Santa Run.

The West Rand Biking Association (WRBA) held its yearly Santa Run to make this year’s festive season one to remember for underprivileged children. They also donated to two schools this year.

The day kicked off with riders setting out from Sasol Pinehaven, where event organiser JP du Toit estimated around 220 motorcycles participated in the run, drawing a total of about 400 attendees.

The event concluded when the run ended at the drop-off point in Aureus where everyone was further entertained by the live band EuNic.

“Nothing can prepare you for the day we had. Once we rode past the meeting point and saw the hundreds of motorcycles at the garage waiting to go to the event, I got a big lump in my throat. I could feel tears fill my eyes and a very big joy in my heart. That made all the hard work we did worth it,” JP expressed.

According to JP, the event was extremely successful.

“I think this event was especially successful since everyone opened their hearts by supporting this cause to give to the underprivileged,” he stated.

He further mentioned some challenges, including ensuring there are sufficient donations to give to underprivileged children.

The donations for the event include:

• R10 000 from the West Rand Bikers Church (WRBC)
• 200 Lego sets from Care for Education
• 900 packets of biscuits and chocolates hampers from Delightful Edibles
• Child-appropriate sublimation printed T-shirts, Hoodies and caps to the value of R22 000 from Revolution Apparel
• Soft toys, dolls, speakers, arts and crafts sets and stationery and even a bicycle
• Pool noodles that went to West Rand School for the Disabled

Laerskool Randfontein as well as Laerskool Rapportryer both received donations from the WRBA on November 26.

Rappies spokesperson Esme Botha stated the association raises donations for them annually.

“Every year, Rappies is on the Christmas list and for that we are extremely grateful. Thanks to WRBA and all the motorcycle clubs that contributed to this Christmas project for our school’s less fortunate. You are truly appreciated,” Esme expressed.
