BackaBuddy: Tarlton petrol incident victim (10) needs your help

It has been over a year since 10-year-old Arno Geldenhuys’ life changed dramatically. Yet despite all the challenges he has faced, he persists in getting better and is supported by those around him including family, friends and his doctors who treat him daily.

In December 2023, Arno suffered burns as a result of a petrol explosion that took place at his home in Tarlton. The family has since relocated to Magaliesburg.

According to his mother Bernadette Geldenhuys, the severe burns from a petrol incident resulted in 40% burn wounds in his body. His fight for survival includes frequent theatre visits three times a week, causing immense pain.

”As parents, we’re incredibly proud of his strength and determination in this battle. We are reaching out for support to cover any medical expenses and aid in his rehabilitation. Your contributions will bridge any gaps in his medical accounts and support his recovery. As a family, we’re grateful for every open heart and helping hand extended to us. Arno is a spirited young boy, full of energy, who finds joy in outdoor activities, farm work, rugby, and riding his off-road bike,” Geldenhuys said.

Since then a BackaBuddy campaign has been set up for Arno to raise funds and assist him in his struggles. Arno has also been assisted and featured by other organisations to tell his story such as the Hero Burn Foundation which has expressed on Facebook how much of a fighter he is despite his obstacles.

”The past year has been filled with challenges, from the physical and emotional hurdles of recovery to the adjustments that come with such a profound change. Yet, through it all, there has been one constant: Hope. Hope has been their guiding light, illuminating even the darkest of days and reminding them that brighter times are ahead. The number of lives this brave boy has impacted is truly remarkable. His fighting spirit has not only inspired his family but has also reached out to countless others facing their battles. Arno’s resilience serves as a beacon of hope, encouraging those around him to keep pushing forward, no matter how tough things get.”
